James FITT, Innkeeper of Winchester.

James FITT was born about 1645 and married on the 7th January 1678, in Winchester Cathedral, to Joane BLAKE.
On the 5 Aug 1681 it was arranged for John WARE, son of William WARE of the parish of St.John, Winchester to be apprenticed for 9 years to James FITT, Innholder of the City of Winchester. James promised to feed, clothe and teach him everything that he knew. John promised to serve him truly as his master after the order of an apprentice.

Only one baptism of James and Joan's  children has been found in Winchester, but from his will the following has been assumed.

  • Susanna ('eldest daughte') married John NEWBY on the 2nd October 1701 at St. Maurice Winchester. 
    Susanna  was buried at Hursley on the 10th March 1757.  John on the 18th September 1716, also at Hursley
  • John baptised 15th June 1681 St Thomas, Winchester and buried 20th November 1734, Gosport.
  • Thomas born c.1681 and married Margaret ?

James died in 1685 and his widow, Joane, went on to marry Henry KENT.  Joane  died in 1721 and is buried in Hursley.

 

 

There is also a James FITT tailor of Winchester and
a Henry FITT (died 13th January 1705 in 29th year) of Old Alresford at about this time.  
In his will Henry mentions a brother James with a wife Sarah and a daughter Sarah of Winchester.  
James FITT the tailor had a wife named Sarah and a daughter, Sarah REEVES
